During the hurricane season from June to November, it is essential to implement contingency plans for construction sites. Having a storm contingency plan not only improves safety for the project and its personnel, but for the surrounding community as well. MEC engineers will give an overview of some practices and guidelines to prepare construction sites better for upcoming storms.

As a MEP contractor, we always instruct our teams on hurricane preparation and safety plans before the hurricane season begins. These plans explain the timeline and steps that we must take to safeguard the project site in a storm. Our entire project team and investors must be aware of the plan and review it thoroughly, discuss all possible hazards and dangers to ensure proper implementation and project safety.

When working on a renovation or any project that mixes new construction and existing facilities, we create a ride-out team who stays at the project site during the storm. That team can provide additional support to the facility maintenance team, once all activities outlined in the hurricane preparation plans are completed.

In that difficult period of time, we take note all work in progress and create an inventory of materials and equipment. Once the hurricane passes by, these documents will help when we evaluate the damage if any. This documentation can be submitted as part of an insurance claim if necessary.

Preparing for hurricanes is crucial at this time of the year. Safety plans and awareness will keep the project site and work teams safe. In these hurricane months, MEC engineers are carefully operating our projects especially ones with complex electrical systems. These above tips definitely comply HSE standards and are proved to be efficient for our project management many years to guarantee 100% safety in our sites. That is why MEC contractor is always regarded as the most reliable partner of many domestic and international investors and clients.
